Senior driver programmes in Ontario attempt to keep elders on the road for as long as they can safely do so. Once a motorist reaches the age of 80, they are required to:
Take a vision test
Undergo a driver record review
Participate in a 45-minute Group Education Session (GES)
During the GES, complete two, brief,non-computerized in-class screening assignments
If necessary, take a road test
The complete renewal procedure will take approximately 90 minutes.
Please keep in mind that this is a programme for renewing your licence. Existing and valid licences will not be cancelled, but you must meet all conditions before your licence can be renewed.
You may be requested to take a driving test or submit medical information from your doctor once you’ve finished the group session and screening components.
If you have questions about the new program, please call 1-800-396-4233 or 416-235-3579 (GTA).
